Bridal ring sets
are symbols of union and
commitment between couples. Magnetic titanium bridal ring sets go a step
ahead of the symbolism
and manifest this union through the physical
display of attraction, between rings.
Among bridal
ring sets, magnetic bridal ring
sets hold a special place among the specialities of rings. Magnetic
ring sets as the name suggests, are magnetic in nature. The rings are
made to attract each other, allowing couples to physically feel their
hands bonded to each other. The rings search for each other, as if they
were magically animated.
Magnetic
jewelry is made from common
jewelry metals like titanium or tungsten. The magnetic nature comes
from magnets mounted along the jewellery. The magnets are usually made
of magnetite or neodymium, both of which are man-made magnets.
There are also magnets made fully out of neodymium, making the entire
jewellery piece truly magnetic.
Magnetic
nature
Magnetic nature
of rings can be divided into
permanent or non-permanent. In actual fact, no magnets are truly
permanent. All magnets lose their magnetic quality slowly over time;
however permanent magnets lose their magnetic nature so slowly that
they are assumed to be permanent. Neodymium magnetic wedding ring lose
approximately 1 percent of their magnetic strength in 10 years!
Most magnetic
titanium wedding rings are made
using permanent magnets, but some cheap quality rings touted themselves
to be permanent magnets and lose their magnetic quality within months
or weeks of use. Other magnetic wedding ring which are marketed as
're-chargeable' are in fact made using
non-permanent magnets.
Caring for
magnetic wedding rings
You should care
for your magnetic bridal
ringet as you would care for any other jewellery. However, you should
take note that hard knocks or exposure to heat will accelerate the
de-magnetisation of your ring.
Magnets lose
their part of their magnetism
above their working temperature and totally when exposed to higher than
a certain temperature known as Curie temperature. Working temperature
for magnetic wedding ring metals typically ranges from hundred to
several hundred of degree Celsius; therefore it is unlikely that your
magnetic wedding ring will lose its quality from heat. However, it is
still advisable to keep your magnets cool.
And of course,
presence of other strong
magnets, especially those made from different magnetic materials will
cause your magnetic wedding ring to de-magnetise.
Magnetic
strength
Magnetic
strength is measured using a
gaussmeter in units of gauss. There are many magnetic wedding ring
out there which claim to benefit its wearer by magnetic therapy.
Unfortunately, there are no conclusive results on whether there are
real benefits to such. On the other hand, there are also no known
hazards to the human body due to exposure to magnetic fields.
However, one
should not wear magnetic
jewelry of any kind if ferromagnetic objects such as a heart
pacemaker are embedded within the body. The magnetic field of the
jewelry may disrupt the normal functioning of such equipment.
Magnetic fields
of the rings can also potentially damage other magnetic equipment such as the magnetic strip
on credit cards and hard disks, although still usually will not happen
unless you are rubbing the magnetic against the equipment directly.
Magnetic ring sets are not as commonly used as bridal sets because the
magnetic feature places certain design limits (magnets must be embedded
somewhere). Even with fully neodymium made rings, which is a magnet in
itself and do not require further embedding of magnets, magnetic
wedding ring are not popular as bridal sets. Neodymium rings are not as
durable as metals like titanium or gold and care must be taken not to
allow the magnets to smash against each other lest they shatter or
chip.
Nonetheless,
some couples are deeply
attracted by the mysterious quality of magnets and do choose magnetic
wedding rings for bridal ring sets.
